Sportsman Creek wildlife refuge has a healthy population of Coastal Banksia. They are a very important winter food source for Birds and Gliders. The nectar in blossums also provide a delicious drink when soaked in water. “Nectar-laden flowers feel sticky when squeezed and are best harvested in the early mornings before birds and  evaporation deplete the yield”.
