Nectar feeding Fly and descriptions found on Sportsman Creek Conservation Area

A brightly coloured,  nectar feeding hoverfly which has spotted eyes. This fly produces a loud buzzing noise similar to bees and is found along the eastern seaboard and Western Australia.

A common resident on Sportsman Creek wildlife refuge. They are very slender and delicate long-legged flies. They feed on nectar and do not bite, nor do they eat mosquitos. They are also a very good food source for birds.
