Freshwater Fish

Fish species inhabiting Sportsman Creek wildlife refuge

Caught in Sportsman Creek is this introduced goldfish. They have adapted to local conditions and now inhabit most waterways along the eastern seaboard. The damage they do is not fully known as they feed on small molluscs and algae. They can survive in sluggish waters and tolerate high temperatures and low oxygen levels.
